Building a scene in TerrainView-Globe™ is much like in TerrainView™.
The main difference is that the user can create the terrain and the overlaid scene in a single framework. The terrain itself is more flexible, the datasets can be replaced dynamically. The digital elevation model is not bound to a texture and vice versa, hence the dataset types “image” and “elevation”.
If more than one dataset of the same type is present in the same area, the dataset with the highest resolution (resolution of the highest level of detail) is drawn. This effect is sometimes undesirable with texture data. To overcome this issue, the user can set opacity values for the texture datasets to get a blended version of the texture datasets.
Although the terrain engine is completely different in TerrainView-Globe™, the interaction with the terrain is the same as with classical (“flat”) terrains.
